CABEI supports Guatemala in the emergency caused by heavy rains

The grant aid for US$ 250,000 aims to contribute to the mitigation of damage caused by heavy rains that have hit the country.

Tegucigalpa, October 15, 2014 -The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), provided a grant aid to the Government of Guatemala for US$ 250 thousand dollars in response to the declaration of a state of emergency in the departments of Jutiapa, Chiquimula, Santa Rosa, Quiché, El Progreso, Huehuetenango, Baja Verapaz, Zacapa, Retalhuleu, Sololá, Totonicapán, Chimaltenango, San Marcos, Guatemala, Suchitepéquez and Jalapa, after heavy rains that have caused extensive damage.

CABEI’s Executive President, Dr. Nick Rischbieth, confirmed that the cooperation is consistent with the 2010-2014 Institutional Strategy "Integrating Competitiveness with Social Development", and specifically within the areas of competitiveness and social development.

He also expressed that the emergency donation seeks to cooperate immediately with the solution of the problems caused by the storm and to support humanitarian assistance to the affected population.

As a gesture of solidarity with this nation, CABEI’s Board considered to provide this grant aid in order to collaborate with the efforts of Guatemala, given the damage caused by the intensity of the phenomenon that affected the country.
