CABEI supports Colombia after avalanche in Mocoa

CABEI regrets the tragedy and granted US$250 thousand in non-reimbursable financial cooperation to the Government of Colombia.

Tegucigalpa, April 6, 2017. - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) granted US$250 thousand in non-reimbursable financial cooperation to the Government of Colombia in order to mitigate damages caused by the avalanche in the community of Mocoa, which killed more than 300 people.

Faced with the disaster, CABEI Executive President, Dr. Nick Rischbieth, regrets the tragedy and explained that the donation seeks to contribute to solving the problems generated by the catastrophe.

Colombia has been a non-regional member of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration since 1996.

In 2016, CABEI disbursed a total of US186.0 million to Colombia. Noteworthy is the use of US$50.0 million to finance programs in the framework of the Global Credit Line scheme and US$136.0 million for a project to construct, rehabilitate, improve, operate and maintain the approximately 194 km-long Honda-Puerto Salgar-Girardot highway corridor.
