CABEI signs loan agreement with the Republic of El Salvador

CABEI and the Attorney General’s Office of El Salvador seek to strengthen the institutional capacities of the security and justice system by promoting inter-institutional and regional coordination.

 

San Salvador, February 5, 2020. - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), signed a loan contract for US$25,338,586 with the Republic of El Salvador to finance the Construction, Equipment and Modernization of El Salvador's Attorney General's Central Offices (FGR).

The loan contract was signed by Salvadoran Minister of Finance, Mr. Nelson Eduardo Fuentes, and CABEI Country Manager for El Salvador, Mr. Raúl Castaneda. Likewise, Attorney General, Mr. Raúl Ernesto Melara, participated as an honorary witness.

The project will contribute to the centralization of the activities and operations of the FGR, thus improving the service to users, while strengthening its institutional capacity through investments that foster the standardization, professionalization and technification of all instances related to the security and administration of criminal justice. In addition, the centralization involves a reduction of expenses with regard to leasing of real estate and an improvement in administrative and logistic processes.

The financing operation is consistent with the objectives of the CABEI Program to Support the Central American Security Strategy and directly related to two of its four components, including “Fight against Crime” and “Institutional Strengthening,” which are focused on the following areas: Strengthening of criminal investigation, technification of the justice sector and provision of infrastructure and equipment to agencies linked to the security sector.
