CABEI signs educational credit agreement with UAC of Nicaragua

• Young Nicaraguans have available funding to study higher education at AUC.

Managua, Nicaragua, March 23, 2017. –Today, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and Universidad American College (UAC) signed a collaboration agreement under the framework of the CABEI Educational Credit Program (PBCE).

The agreement seeks to strengthen the students’ competitiveness and provide a financial mechanism that allows them access to higher education studies, while at the same time enabling the institution to expand its academic offer to the CABEI member countries in the Central American region.

The agreement was signed by the CABEI Country Manager for Nicaragua, Edda Magaly Meléndez, and UAC’s President and Legal Representative, Mauricio Herdocia.

The initiative is part of the PBCE, which a mechanism created to promote an increase in Central American educational rates. It is financed with CABEI’s own funds and contributions from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), granted through its International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF).

To date, the PBCE has disbursed a total of US$5.6 million, benefiting approximately 469 students (225 women and 244 men). Currently, a total of 24 universities located in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica offer the PBCE.
