Representatives of CABEI and the economic and academic sectors shared experiences regarding the guarantee system as an alternative to support credit solutions and MSMEs.

Tegucigalpa, September 20, 2018.-  The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has become a benchmark with regard to Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) financing. Since 1996, the multilateral development organization has allocated more than US$7.60 billion to the financial sector.

During the period from 2013 to 2018, in the case of Honduras, CABEI provided financing amounting to US$593 million to the financial sector to support investments aimed at strengthening the Honduran productive sectors, as well as Honduran MSMEs.

CABEI plays a significant role in the creation of financial mechanisms that through financial institutions enable the streamlining of financing to productive sectors, housing, innovation and microcredit, among others. The Bank also ensures that there are instruments that reduce the risk of granting credits to the financial system. Guarantees are an essential instrument for mitigating risks and increasing access to financing for MSMEs.

In this sense today and tomorrow, CABEI officials will participate in the "Latin American Forum of Guarantee Trends: Challenges and opportunities for guarantee systems;" an activity organized by the Latin American Association of Guarantee Institutions and CONFIANZA SA-FGR. The event is carried out with the aim of exchanging experiences that foster the adoption of business models that promote the development of the guarantee instrument in order to facilitate access to credit for MSMEs.
