CABEI's celebration included the realization of different proposals that invite to reflect on effective equality of opportunities and on the defense of women's rights.

Tegucigalpa, March 8, 2019.- On Friday, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI)  commemorated International Women's Day with a number of activities aimed at women's empowerment and awareness raising on the importance of gender equity for the region's development.

The event was presided over by CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, who commented that the Bank is committed to providing assistance to all initiatives that reinforce the leadership of women who want to grow in the professional field.

At the event, CABEI Director for the Dominican Republic, Clara Quiñonez, stated that, "This is an opportunity in which we can discuss this problem, reflect and raise awareness of the situation that many women throughout the world experience, which is a result of historical convergences that never favored us; we are the ones who are destined to create the synergies to make our rights prevail and continue fighting to make this world a more just and egalitarian world for all its inhabitants."

CABEI promotes a reference model for female empowerment
In order to promote the economic autonomy of women and improve their capacity as agents of change in the economic and social development of the region, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has designed the Regional Financing Program for Women Entrepreneurs (FEM).

The financing granted under the program is channeled through intermediary financial institutions that meet the eligibility requirements established by the Bank.

The FEM program was launched in June 2016. In total to date, US$13.7 million has been disbursed to 4,271 MSMEs, directly benefiting 6,044 women.

Dr. Mossi commented that, "With this type of mechanisms, the entity reaffirms its commitment to promote economic and social benefits that contribute to reducing poverty, boosting regional trade and reducing inequalities in the region."
