CABEI approves US$35 million loan to modernize water and sanitation services in Costa Rica

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), and the Costa Rican Water and Sanitation Institute (AyA in Spanish), signed a loan contract for US$35 million to increase the coverage, as well as to improve the quality of water and sanitation services.

With this approval, CABEI is increasing an initial loan for US$68.5 million to strengthen the Program to Supply San José Metropolitan Area, Urban Aqueducts and Sewer Systems in Puerto Viejo de Limón, to a total investment of US$173 million.

CABEI’s Executive President, Dr. Nick Rischbieth, explained this approval is part of a program that is under execution in Costa Rica and has a higher than 60% progress through 43 projects. The goal of this program is to improve the life and health conditions for more than 958 thousand citizens around the country.

CABEI’s Country Manager for Costa Rica, Mrs. Hazel Cepeda, reaffirmed CABEI’s commitment to offer solutions that support the Country’s Investment Plan, and continue to be the financial arm that supports the development of the Central American region.

The Executive President of the Costa Rican Water and Sanitation Institute, Mrs. Yesenia Calderón Solano, expressed her gratification with CABEI’s support on this and other projects oriented to deliver a better quality product, a more efficient use of water resources, and a larger coverage of AyA services nationwide.
