CABEI and UNFPA join forces to improve the region’s competitiveness and integration

• The organizations are exploring initiatives to improve competitiveness and overcome poverty in the region.

Tegucigalpa, March 24, 2017. - The Executive Vice President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Attorney Alejandro Rodríguez Zamora, and the Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), Mr. Esteban Caballero, held a meeting to explore new lines of cooperation in order to promote initiatives and projects that foster progress in the economic and social development of the region’s peoples.


At the meeting, different opportunities were discussed for the identification of programs and projects aimed at population development in the CABEI member countries through financial assistance, technical assistance and counseling on such issues as green funds, gender equality and sustainable cities.

CABEI Executive Vice President, Attorney Alejandro Rodríguez Zamora, stated that "The collaboration with UNFPA is a demonstration of the Bank’s willingness to work together with other institutions in order to achieve more effective and lasting results with regard to regional development."

The issues addressed during the meeting were related to knowledge management, regionally-focused initiatives, participation in project financing, technical assistance and follow-up on programs involving the inclusion of young people and others.
