They seek to promote and carry out projects that have a positive impact on mitigation and climate change.

San José, Costa Rica, November 17, 2017.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) signed an agreement to strengthen and develop actions that have positive impact on environmental and social issues committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This is part of the improvements and structural changes that CABEI has been making to position itself as an entity committed to the best international standards in terms of financing climate change actions and as a bank committed to the sustainable development of its member countries.

CABEI has a strong commitment to environmental issues, starting with the establishment of environmental sustainability as a transversal axis to all the Bank's operations. This framed in its CABEI’s 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy, "Integrating Sustainable Development and Competitiveness".

The Executive Vice President of CABEI, Alejandro Rodríguez, stated, "The Bank recognizes that the impacts of climate change and climate variability represent a clear threat to the economic and social development of our countries. Therefore, the collaboration with GIZ to work hand to hand is to achieve more effective results in the fight against climate change ".

CABEI has an Environmental and Social Policy that will carry out projects on climate change issues. To do so, the Bank has been accredited to the Climate Change Adaptation Fund and to the Green Climate Fund to provide access to resources for the execution of programs and projects that contribute to lessen the effects of climate change in the region.
