SICA, CABEI and the Government of Germany initiate meetings on cooperation consultation

These meetings will serve to fine-tune strategic issues and mechanisms for cooperation among the entities.

Tegucigalpa, September 12, 2018.- With the objective of contributing to the sustainable development of the region, the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Nick Rischbieth, and the Chief of the Central America, Caribbean and Mexico Division of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Ulrike Metzger, chaired today the first meeting of the SICA, CABEI and the Government of Germany's cooperation consultations.

The sessions' agenda will focus on the priorities that the German Government has expressed regarding the protection of the environment and natural resources; and renewable energy and energy efficiency.

During the working day, the CABEI team and the Government of Germany will participate in working sessions in which they will gather the necessary information to refine the formulation of opportunities for concrete actions for development and contribute to the achievements in terms of sustainability and poverty reduction; as well as the principles that drive the Sustainable Development Goals.

New momentum is given to MSMEs and water and sanitation for the region



Within the framework of these sessions, an intergovernmental agreement was signed for an amount of EUR 140 million to strengthen the MSMEs and water and sanitation sectors in the region.

The Executive President of CABEI, Dr. Nick Rischbieth, explained that the agreement will partially finance: the II Programme for the Business Development and Promotion of MSMEs in Central America for an amount of up to EUR 50.0 million, and the Sanitation Programme in the Central American Region for an amount of up to EUR 90.0 million.

He indicated that the signing of this agreement will grant CABEI the possibility of obtaining two loans on concessional terms from the German Development Bank (KfW), adding the important efforts of both entities in financial cooperation aimed mainly at the promotion of renewable energy, energy efficiency, water and sanitation, as well as Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
