San Salvador, October 2th, 2023.- Volunteers from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) in El Salvador carried out a reforestation day in El Espino Ecopark in order to help maintain the forest cover of this protected area and offset the environmental impact generated by the Bank's paper consumption during 2022.

A total of 40 people participated in this important activity, including CABEI employees and their families, who took on the task of planting 300 fruit trees and native species such as mango, orange, mandarin, tangerine and sapote, among others.

The activity was coordinated together with members of the El Espino Cooperative Association, the entity in charge of managing this valuable park, since its protection provides important benefits such as water production and supply of aquifers, soil protection, wildlife conservation, and a space for recreation and healthy recreation.

This action is part of CABEI's Environmental Management System (EMS), certified under ISO 14001:2015, which applies to the operations and administrative activities carried out at CABEI's facilities in Honduras and El Salvador, and reaffirms its commitment as the region's green bank, promoting initiatives that promote sustainable development and environmental protection.

The reforestation executed by the Salvadoran team is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 15, which suggests protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, as well as sustainable forest management. In addition, it is linked to the cross-cutting Environmental and Social Sustainability axis in the CABEI 2020-2024 Institutional Strategy from where it promotes initiatives for the preservation of the environment and the fight against climate change.
