The multilateral development agency announces that the cooperation seeks to help the authorities of the Republic of Colombia, to carry out the necessary actions to mitigate the effects of hurricanes Eta and Iota in its territory.

Tegucigalpa, November 25, 2020.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved non-reimbursable financial cooperation in the amount of US$500,000 to the Government of Colombia.

In this sense, the Executive President of CABEI, Dr. Dante Mossi, stated that in view of the negative effects of the passage of hurricanes Eta and Iota through Colombia, the Bank provides this humanitarian assistance as an immediate response to the emergencies in the affected areas.

The resources may be used for the purchase of food, drinking water and other primary goods required by the affected people; purchase of medicines and medical care for the affected people; and other materials required in the shelters created to deal with the emergency.

Last week CABEI approved other cooperations to the governments of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. These operations are part of the general guidelines for the granting of cooperations for emergency aid and natural disasters.

Finally, Dr. Mossi stated that: "The main objective of this cooperation is to support partner countries in the implementation of humanitarian actions. In addition, the Bank ratifies its commitment to continue supporting governments in the region to improve their capacity in natural disaster management and reduction mechanisms”.
