CABEI approved a donation of one million dollars to Honduras and Nicaragua for humanitarian assistance in the wake of Hurricane Eta
The non-reimbursable financial cooperation provided by the multilateral is for a total amount of US$500,000 for each country.
Tegucigalpa November 10th, 2020.- In solidarity and support to the Governments of Honduras and Nicaragua in the implementation of humanitarian actions resulting from the flooding and overflowing of rivers by the passage of Hurricane Eta, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), has granted each country a non-reimbursable financial cooperation for a total amount of U.S. $ 500,000.
CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, explained that this cooperation reaffirms the Bank's commitment to the region's people. "For more than 60 years, CABEI has always supported its member countries during this type of emergency and situation and on this occasion it will not stop helping them," he said.
He also explained that this is a non-reimbursable financial cooperation for emergency assistance due to the effects caused by Hurricane Eta in the Republics of Nicaragua and Honduras. Each country will be designating an entity that will coordinate the correct implementation of the resources.
The resources of the cooperation carried out by CABEI may be used for purposes such as Purchase of food, drinking water and other primary use goods required by the affected people; purchase of medicines and medical care for the affected people; purchase of mattresses and other materials required in the shelters created to deal with the emergency; materials and labor for the construction or repair of houses, buildings, and other infrastructure affected during the emergency; purchase of inputs for the recovery of agricultural crops lost as a result of the emergency; purchase and application of substances and spraying equipment to eliminate pests; financing of campaigns and actions related to dealing with the emergency and the affected population.
The cooperation´s resources will be delivered in a single disbursement to the executing agencies designated by each country, which must submit a report to CABEI on the use of these resources and the results obtained no later than six months after the cooperation has been disbursed.
CABEI expresses to the Governments and the population of both member countries its feeling of deep solidarity in the wake of the passage of this phenomenon that has caused thousands of people to be affected, and at the same time, expresses its full readiness to collaborate in assisting the victims and to help mitigate the damage caused by this tragedy.
