San Salvador, October 20th, 2023.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), in coordination with the Korea-CABEI Partnership Single Donor Trust Fund (KTF) and the National Aqueduct and Sewer Administration (ANDA in Spanish) are making progress in the execution of the consultancy for the modernization of the Guluchapa water supply system in San Salvador, which includes the design of a Photovoltaic Energy Generation Plant and an Integrated Water Resources Management System.

The consultancy approved in July 2022 will have among its final products a Real Time Monitoring System to support the current Guluchapa Water Supply System to know the status of the water from the moment it is made potable until it is injected into the distribution network.

This initiative is part of the US$600,000 non-reimbursable technical cooperation granted under the KTF, which is being executed by the consulting firm SUNJIN Engineering & Architecture Co. of Korean origin and the Spanish firm VIELCA Ingenieros, S.A., chosen after an international public bidding process carried out by CABEI.

In order for these studies to establish the basis for the planned development of the clean water service of the Guluchapa system, SUNJIN-VIELCA will use technology that adheres to the best standards of environmental quality, economy, energy efficiency, low operational complexity and sustainability over time.

The consultancy will consist of six phases: comprehensive diagnosis of the existing infrastructure, recommendations for the modernization of the clean water and sanitation service, financial and economic analysis, socio-environmental impact assessment and management plan, dissemination meetings and capacity building.

In this way, CABEI continues to consolidate its support to El Salvador by strengthening its technical and operational capacity in water supply management to achieve greater accessibility, energy generation and integrated water resource management.
