CABEI provides support to 570 Costa Rican families affected by the economic crisis

CABEI donates US$25,000 in food, personal care and cleaning products

San José, August 03, 2020. – Approximately 570 Costa Rican families that suffered economic hardships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have received support from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). The support included basic food, personal care and cleaning supplies.

In the framework of its Environmental and Social Policy, specifically its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility System (SASC) component, the Bank donated a total of US$25,000 to four different organizations that identified the beneficiaries and delivered the aid.

US$10,000 in food supplies went to Asociación Solidarista de Empleados de K-9 Internacional y afines to support 320 families affected by the suspension of their employment contracts at the Juan Santamaría International Airport.

US$7,000 was provided to the Ladies Volunteer Association at Hospital San Juan de Dios whom, in conjunction with the Institution's Social Work Service, identified 120 socially and economically vulnerable families in need of basic food, personal care and cleaning products in the province of San José.

Likewise, the San José Rotatory Club Association received US$4,000 to provide basic products to 100 families affected by job suspensions and layoffs, as well as street vendors and families in isolation due to COVID-19.

In addition, US$4,000 went to the Christian Association of Asambleas de Dios Ciruelas de Alajuela to benefit 30 unemployed families and at high-risk elders.

CABEI Executive President Dr. Dante Mossi highlighted that, “The region is facing difficult times and undoubtedly some people are having greater difficulties than others. To that end, the Bank is proud of the work carried out through different organizations in its member countries to support such people and their households.”

Through its Environmental and Social Policy, which was updated in 2016 by the Board of Directors, CABEI seeks to contribute to economic growth, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability in the region.
