San Salvador, 14th November 2023.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved emergency assistance in the amount of up to US$1,000,000.00 to support El Salvador's authorities in the actions necessary to address the effects of Tropical Storm Pilar in the country.
With the approved aid, the authorities will have the financial resources to support the most urgent needs of the families in shelters where they receive food, medical assistance and security.
Due to the threat posed by the storm, a State of National Emergency was declared by legislative decree for 15 days and during its passage through the territory, Tropical Storm Pilar caused heavy rains that affected vulnerable areas of the country.
Among the effects caused were: two rivers overflowed in the departments of Cabañas and La Paz, fallen trees, damaged houses, landslides due to the rains that caused the interruption of road connections, among others.
The funds may be used for the purchase of food, clean water and primary goods, as well as for health care of the affected population. They may also be used to purchase materials and labor for the construction and repair of houses, among other purposes related to this emergency.
In this way, CABEI continues to ensure the well-being of the population of its member countries and responds in a timely manner to the needs of El Salvador and the entire region. This assistance is within the framework of CABEI's Emergency and Natural Disaster Assistance Regulations.
