Republic of Honduras reaffirms its commitment to strengthen CABEI's equity through advance payment of the fourth capital installment

Payment of US$6.4 million is part of the Bank's VIII General Capital Increase.

Tegucigalpa, August 22th, 2023.- As a demonstration of its support for strengthening the equity of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the Republic of Honduras made an advance payment of its fourth installment of capital related to the capital subscription made within the framework of the Bank's VIII General Capital Increase.

The payment, corresponding to the fourth of eight annual, equal and consecutive installments of capital payable, is derived from the subscription of 20,400 series "A" shares as part of the capital increase, and was made in cash for US$6.4 million on July 31st, 2023, strengthening the institution's financial and credit profile.

In 2020, CABEI officially increased its authorized capital from US$5,000.0 billion to US$7,000.0 billion. This was the Bank's VIII General Capital Increase, and the second in less than ten years, which confirms the high value of the CABEI franchise and the support of its members, as well as its relevance for the region as the main channeler of financial resources, disbursing more than US$32.2 billion since its founding in 1960.

Honduras is one of CABEI's founding regional members. Its shareholding is 10.68% with a subscribed capital of US$714 million. During 2022, the multilateral approved a total of US$485 million for operations benefiting more than 9 million Hondurans.
