Costa Rican Gisela Sánchez sworn in as CABEI's 16th Executive President

The inauguration ceremony was held at the National Theater of Costa Rica with the participation of the President of the Republic, Rodrigo Chaves and honored guests.

San José, December 5th, 2023.- In a solemn ceremony held at the National Theater of Costa Rica, in which the President of the Republic of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, participated, Costa Rican Gisela Sánchez Maroto was sworn in as the 16th Executive Presidency of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished guests such as ministers, magistrates, congressmen, ambassadors, and Bank directors, who witnessed the historic appointment of the first woman to occupy this position in the most important multilateral development institution in Central America.

"In addition to congratulating Ms. Gisela for this great achievement in the main Bank that financially supports the region thanks to her capacity and effort, I also want to recognize the milestone she marks in its history by being the first woman to preside it, something that should make us all proud and that I want to deeply thank the Bank's member countries and the Directors who are present here for giving her their vote of confidence", emphasized the president of the Republic, Rodrigo Chaves Robles.

According to Sánchez, the efficiency and optimization of the resources administered and channeled by CABEI will be a priority over the next five years in order to guarantee the effective allocation of resources to benefit the region's most vulnerable populations.

"I appreciate the trust placed in me by CABEI's member countries to be appointed to this position in which I will focus not only on maximizing the Bank's financial results, but also on making it a catalyst of value for Central Americans and, above all, for those who need it most, in an environmentally sustainable manner", highlighted the new Executive President, who is an industrial engineer and MBA with an emphasis in Finance and Strategy.

At the ceremony, students from the National Music Institute, who received scholarships from CABEI's Social Support Foundation (FAS for its name in Spanish), offered a cultural performance that delighted the distinguished audience present, and children from the Rafael Vargas Quirós School, who benefited from its reconstruction as a measure of social compensation as part of the development of the Northern Bypass mega-road project, welcomed the guests.

CABEI, under the visionary leadership of Ms.  Sánchez, reaffirms its commitment as a catalyst for development and progress in the region by promoting social and inclusive progress in the region.
