Spain and Honduras sign contract to execute the project: Copan Tourist Interpretation Center.

As part of "Spain's Debt Conversion Program to Honduras," which is managed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Spain and Honduras signed a contract for the project "Construction, Equipment, Training and Improvements to the Management of the Copán Interpretation Center," which is run by the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History.

The project involves improving the tourism management model at the Copán Archaeological Park by improving its tourism infrastructure and recreational equipment and by increasing tourists’ appreciation of the park by providing an Interpretation Program for visitors, as well as raising awareness and educating the surrounding communities about the importance of conserving their cultural heritage.

Spain's Debt Conversion Program to Honduras selected Informes y Proyectos S.A. for the project’s execution, which is estimated to be carried out in 24 months.

The implementation of this project will benefit 7,000 inhabitants of the town of Copán Ruins and its surrounding communities, and more than 100 of the Park’s tourism service providers.

The total project investment is L.29,514,100, of which L.24,563,630 will be provided by the Debt Conversion Program with a L.4, 950,470.00 counterpart from the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History.

The signing of this agreement took place at the CABEI headquarters in Tegucigalpa and was attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Honduras, Luis Belzuz de los Rios; CABEI Executive Vice President, Alejandro Rodríguez Zamora; a representative of the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History, Ms. Elinda Lanza; and a representative of the construction company, INYPSA.
