Authorities meet at the CABEI to promote German cooperation in the Central American region.

Tegucigalpa, June 24, 2019.- Since 2002, the Central American region has benefited from allocations totaling 690.1 million euros provided by German cooperation through the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

This was announced today by CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, during the inauguration of the event denominated, "Development Cooperation Negotiations among the Central American Integration System (SICA), CABEI and the Government of Germany," which was held at the CABEI headquarters in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Dr. Mossi highlighted that, "The support from the German Government has contributed to the institutional and technical strengthening of CABEI in the three priority areas of joint cooperation: protection of the environment and natural resources; renewable energy and energy efficiency; and sustainable economic development through the promotion of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which are complemented by CABEI's mandate to contribute to the balanced economic and social development of its member countries, as a response to the needs defined by the governments of the region."

Finally, he stated that, "This opportunity allows assessing compliance with initiatives that contribute to the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda as a common roadmap for all parties in the fulfillment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals." In addition, he noted that in its role as the System's financial arm, the Bank carries out efforts to align its operations in support of the SICA countries' compliance.

The objective of these meetings is to continue and establish a dialogue on development cooperation in the priority areas and corresponding cooperation goals between Germany and the Central American region.
