CABEI receives visit from OIC Executive Director

The purpose of the visit was to establish relations between the two organizations and present financing initiatives in order to generate links and explore opportunities for cooperation on joint interest issues.

Tegucigalpa, October 24, 2017. - Today, the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Nick Rischbieth, received a visit from the Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (OIC), Mr. José Dauster Sette.   

At the visit, Mr. Dauster learned about CABEI’s different financial instruments aimed at supporting the Central American coffee sector, in addition to the programs and projects financed by CABEI in the regional coffee sector, which include components involving financing and technical assistance

During the meeting, information was presented regarding CABEI's support initiatives for its member countries, including the implementation of a Regional Pilot Program to support populations affected by coffee pests and promote sustainable coffee production practices, which has the support of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The program has US$86.0 million available to promote activities for the renovation and maintenance of small and medium-sized coffee farms and aims to benefit approximately 20,600 producers through access to financing and technical assistance services.

As a strategic ally for the region, CABEI seeks to promote sustainable initiatives, including climate change adaptation and mitigation actions through the generation and implementation of financial and non-financial mechanisms that facilitate the adoption of best practices established by the international community.
