CABEI Executive President highlights progress made in climate change financing during high-level meeting of COP 22.

Morocco, November 17, 2016. - In the framework of the Twenty-second Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Nick Rischbieth, ratified to the international community the Institution’s commitment to its member countries of achieving the goals established in the Paris Agreement.

In his speech, Dr. Rischbieth began by noting CABEI’s recognition as an international observer organization of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which allowed it to participate in the high-level COP22 meeting.

Dr. Rischbieth attributed this recognition to a deep process of modernization and evolution in the Bank’s environmental sustainability agenda and to structural changes implemented by it, which has enabled it to position itself as an entity committed to the best international standards in climate change financing.

Dr. Rischbieth also acknowledged that these measures resulted in the Bank’s accreditation as an implementing entity of the Adaptation Fund; in addition, the Institution has entered the last phase of the accreditation process with the Green Climate Fund.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Rischbieth called on the international community to increase funding for climate change adaptation and mitigation in Central American countries, considering that the region’s geographical location makes it one of the most vulnerable to climate change effects. He also reiterated CABEI's commitment to supporting its member countries in achieving the goals set out in the Paris Agreement.
