CABEI presents financial schemes to promote sustainable development in Honduras

CABEI's products, programs and financial solutions are aimed at promoting the development of the country.

 

Tegucigalpa, March 29, 2019.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) held a workshop denominated, "Opportunities for Financing Programs and Projects," with the participation of Honduran President Attorney Juan Orlando Hernández and members of his government cabinet.

CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, together with a team of CABEI officials, presented the available financing lines to the Honduran Head of State and members of his cabinet. They also demonstrated the competitive advantages of the business model to reduce poverty and strengthen regional integration with special attention to the environmental sustainability of its member countries.

Dr. Mossi explained that the event was held to support the country to access financing under highly competitive financial conditions, publicize development initiatives that help improve the country's infrastructure, combat the effects of climate change and promote measures and investments for a future that is low in carbon emissions, resilient and sustainable.



He indicated that with its resources, CABEI seeks to promote actions for climate change adaptation and mitigation with an approach that includes the development of sustainable cities, the promotion of resilient infrastructure in vulnerable communities, the generation of employment and the sustainable management of natural resources from a perspective of social inclusion and gender equity.

During the event, the Bank's various sources of financing were made known; they enable the availability of resources under highly competitive conditions for the financing of public social infrastructure, renewable energies and energy efficiency, water and sanitation, sustainable urban mobility and the environment, within the framework of the CABEI Institutional Strategy.


Support that streamlines economic activity and employment generation
Within the framework of the Paris Agreement, CABEI continues to support Honduras in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and their Determined National Contributions through the identification of priority intervention areas, the most appropriate technologies for climate change mitigation and adaptation and the specific programs and initiatives to be implemented in order to address the challenges of climate change, both at the national and regional levels.

At the close of 2018, CABEI's loan portfolio reached US$1.41 billion. During the same year, four operations were approved, totaling US$84.3 million, of which US$44.3 million were allocated to public sector projects and US$40.0 million to the private financial sector.

Disbursements executed during the 2018 totaled US$204.6 million, of which US$77.9 million were disbursed to the public sector and US$126.7 million were allocated to the private financial sector.
