CABEI organizes seminar to promote economic integration and development in the region

The seminar was presented by the prestigious international law firm Shearman & Sterling, based in New York City, represented by its Attorneys Gregory Tan (Senior Partner) and Alexandro Padrés (Senior Counsel).

Tegucigalpa, September 7, 2013. - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) held a seminar-workshop "CABEI Project Finance 2013," which included presentations by experienced attorneys from the New York firm, Shearman & Sterling. The event was held from September 30 to October 2 at CABEI headquarters in Tegucigalpa, and was attended senior officers responsible for the Bank's legal affairs, who work in CABEI's regional offices.

The seminar focused on a practical approach to analyzing energy generation projects that use hydro, wind, biomass and solid fuel resources. There was also discussion regarding the development of toll-funded highways and facilities for the storage and handling of goods, among others.

These initiatives are part of the Bank's work over the last four years and started with the implementation of its Institutional Strategy "Competitiveness with Integration and Social Development," which has resulted in approvals for the region amounting to US$5.53 billion.

The Institution also approved US$2.10 billion for its axis of social development, US$2.59 billion for its axis of competitiveness and US$848.9 million for its axis of regional integration.

During the workshop, CABEI specialists analyzed different projects that have been funded by CABEI's development investments throughout the region, and discussed global trends in the implementation of a new financing modality known as "Project Finance" and its possible application in our region.
The event was highly significant because of its positive impact and because it will lead to the execution of projects financed through the "Project Finance" mechanism, helping to meet the institutional objective of promoting the economic integration and balanced economic and social development of the Central American region.

In addition, the event also supported CABEI's strategic efforts in the axes of competitiveness and regional integration

CABEI's Legal Counsel, Attorney Julio Eduardo Martínez Bichara said that participants also took advantage of the opportunity to share experiences and lessons learned as a result of the financial crisis of 2008-2009.
