San Salvador, July 17, 2017. – Today at noon, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) inaugurated a photovoltaic project, which will convert solar radiation into electricity in its regional headquarters in El Salvador.

The project involves the installation of a photovoltaic power generation system with a generation capacity of 42.84 kilowatts peak that will be connected to the power grid. The project will lead to annual savings of approximately US$9,825.00 and to a reduction of 45.23 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission, representing estimated energy savings of 18 percent.

During the inauguration ceremony, CABEI Director for El Salvador, Mr. Guillermo Funes, stated that, “The Bank, in the interest of contributing to the generation of renewable energy and displacing the use of fossil fuel based energy, has designed a strategy to achieve this in all of its offices. At CABEI, we recognize the connection between human health and the environment, and our inherent responsibility to provide wellbeing to our employees.”

He added that, “The project provides the perfect balance in reducing the environmental footprint by using renewable energy, while facilitating a positive financial impact that will contribute to the sustainability of operations in El Salvador.”

In addition to this office, CABEI has implemented different programs for efficient and rational use of resources at its headquarters. First, in the Bank’s headquarters in Honduras and currently in the Salvadoran country office, which features the most modern facilities to install the solar photovoltaic project being inaugurated on this date.

According to CABEI Country Manager for El Salvador, the Project arises as part of the Bank's commitment to the region to promote its economic integration and balanced economic and social development. In addition, products are being promoted to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) involved in energy efficiency and renewable energy through financial intermediation programs, such as the Green MSME Initiative and the Program to Promote Productive Sectors. It is extremely important for the region that CABEI promote this type of projects.
