CABEI delivers financial aid to more than 3,000 Dominicans affected by Tropical Storm Franklin

With a cooperation of US$500,000, government authorities will be able to meet part of the needs of the affected population in the provinces of Nagua and María Trinidad Sánchez, as well as their respective municipalities.

Santo Domingo, October 12, 2023.- To counteract the negative effects generated by Tropical Storm Franklin and in solidarity with more than 3,300 Dominicans affected by this natural phenomenon, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), together with the Dominican Republic Government, delivered a donation of US$500,000.00 (RD$28.5 million pesos) to the municipality of Nagua.

The president of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and Hostos Rizik, executive director of CABEI, made the symbolic delivery to the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (FEDOMU), as the executing agency in charge of developing the necessary actions to provide assistance to the affected population.

Tropical Storm Franklin affected 678 homes, 92 aqueducts, 24 communities cut off from communication and affected communication routes. The funds will be used to purchase medical equipment, ambulances, medicines, food, clean water and other goods for primary use required by the affected people, as well as the purchase of inputs for the recovery of agricultural crops.

With actions such as these and others, the multilateral organization will continue to promote programs and projects for its member countries to implement climate change prevention, mitigation and adaptation measures to reduce their vulnerability to these natural phenomena.
