CABEI contributes to the “Donate a Classroom” Program

05/06/2012

The CABEI operation will provide the coeducational public school in Las Marías community in the Department of Choluteca with a new well-equipped classroom.

The policy of Institutional Social Responsibility of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) seeks to encompass all areas, from human/social and environmental to economic.

In this framework, CABEI made a noteworthy contribution to the educational program "Donate a Classroom," an initiative sponsored by Channel 10 TV and La Tribuna newspaper in Honduras. The Bank’s contribution will benefit the Republic of Costa Rica Mixed Rural School, located in the Las Marías del Centro community in the Municipality of Concepción de María, Choluteca and will improve the lives of children in the area, providing them with a healthy and stimulating educational environment. The school has a current enrollment of 50 students.

In 2011, also as part of CABEI’s Institutional Responsibility Plan, the Bank donated a lot of desks to this school to foster the children’s integral educational development.

In 2011, CABEI supported Honduras by providing financing for a total of US$333.1 million, especially with funds for supporting higher education, highway construction and productive projects in the public and private sectors, obtained through the conversion of short-term domestic debt to long-term external debt.
