CABEI authorities visit the Managua Western Hospital construction site

In general, the execution of civil works has had positive progress.

Managua, October 27, 2016. -  Today, authorities and officials from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) paid a visit to the construction site of Hospital General de la Zona Occidental de Managua in order to socialize the scale of the modern infrastructure that the Bank has been funding for the wellbeing of the region’s population.

In general, civil works are well underway; the emergency area has been completed and works on building No. 9 are nearing completion. In addition, work continues with the installation of lightweight partitions, air conditioning ductwork, electrical distribution, ITS channeling, fire resistant system piping, potable water supply and sewage piping.

CABEI’s Director for Nicaragua, Dr. Silvio Conrado, was very pleased with the progress made and took the opportunity to mention that, so far this year, CABEI has disbursed US$14.81 million, which is equivalent to 36.79% of the amount approved; disbursement of US$25.46 million is still pending.

After touring the infrastructure work, CABEI Executive Vice President Attorney Alejandro Rodríguez Zamora highlighted the high level investment made by the Bank. He also stated that, "We can see that the work is progressing quickly; the new hospital will generate 740 jobs and provide quality healthcare services, in addition to boosting the economy of the country and the region."

The Project "Construction and Equipment of Hospital General de la Zona Occidental de Managua" involves the construction of a hospital with three hundred (300) inpatient beds distributed in single, double and triple rooms for such procedures as traumatology, gynecology and obstetrics, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, neonatology and a burned victims unit. In addition, the hospital will include seventy-two (72) observation beds and twenty (22) clinics for outpatient consultation, emergencies and explorations. It will also have seven (7) operating rooms and six (6) expulsion rooms, as well diagnostic support areas and non-medical areas.

It is noteworthy that in addition to this project, CABEI financially supports the following projects:

1. Hospital Militar; construction concluded and under operation.

2. Hospital de Chinandega and Hospital Regional Nuevo Amanecer in Bilwi are undergoing the respective tender process for construction companies and external supervision.

3. Feasibility studies for Hospital en Nueva Segovia.

4. Hospital Carlos Roberto Huembes in Managua.

Additional financing boosts the Nicaraguan economy

By means of different programs and investments, CABEI seeks to contribute to the region’s development, growth and competitiveness. With respect to the project portfolio destined for Nicaragua, CABEI has executed significant investments in sectors focused on infrastructure, international trade, MSMEs and clean energy.

All of the Bank’s operations fall under the framework of its 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy. So far this year, the Bank has approved US$380.00 million to promote job creation, development and regional integration in Nicaragua.
