CABEI approves US$193.2 million for investments in the Public Hospital Network of Guatemala

With this financing, CABEI will support Guatemala in the construction, expansion and equipment of five public hospitals.

The modernization works will improve the capacities of patient care and the quality of life of the inhabitants of Guatemala.

 

Tegucigalpa, December 21, 2018.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved a US$193.2 million loan to finance the “Guatemalan Infrastructure and Hospital Equipment Investment Program.” The program will be executed by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance.

It is noteworthy that the financing amounts to US$193.2 million, of which US$79.0 million comes from the "Korea Development Co-Financing Facility for Central America;" an agreement signed between the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea and CABEI.

The program includes the replacement of the National Hospital of Mazatenango, National Hospital "Ernestina García Viuda de Recinos" of Jutiapa, and the Hospital "Hellen Lossi de Laugerud" of Cobán. In addition, the program involves the recovery of installed capacities of the National Hospital "Juan de Dios Rodas" of Solola, and the National Hospital of Chiquimula, making investments for the design, construction and equipment of these hospitals.

Some of the expected effects of this important program include: increased number of patients treated, increased number of beds, generation of temporary jobs during the execution phase and overall improvement of the quality of health services in the third level of attention to benefit a Guatemalan population estimated at 6,640,650 inhabitants in a target area covering thirteen departments: Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz, Chiquimula, Escuintla, Jutiapa, Jalapa, Quiché, Retalhuleu, Santa Rosa, Sololá, Suchitepéquez, Totonicapán and Zacapa.
