EThe EUR1.4 million in funding to contribute to sustainable health management of Central Americans.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the German Government’s KfW Development Bank signed a financial contribution contract of up to EUR1.4 million in the framework of the Central American Water and Sewer Program.

CABEI Executive President Dr. Nick Rischbieth said that, "CABEI is very pleased about the signing of this financial contribution contract with KfW, which is the Bank’s most important bilateral creditor. We are confident that our special interagency relationship will continue to be strengthened as we explore new areas of cooperation for the benefit of the Central American countries."

It is expected that the feasibility studies financed with KfW’s financial contribution and the studies already financed by CABEI will lead to investments of up to US$173 million for the Costa Rican Water and Sewer Institute. The investment will be jointly financed by CABEI and KfW.
The Central American Water and Sewer Program’s objective is to contribute to sustainable water resource management, environmental protection and population health improvement on a regional level. The program seeks to provide funding for water and sewer projects in different Central American countries.

Germany’s non-reimbursable contribution will be used to hire experts to carry out feasibility studies aimed at improving the water and sewer infrastructure in four Costa Rican cities, including Jacó, Quepos-Manuel Antonio, Puerto Limón and Guácimo.
