CABEI disburses US$7 million for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines in Honduras

Multilateral makes first disbursement for the acquisition of 4.4 million doses against COVID-19 in Honduras.

Tegucigalpa, June 25, 2021.- This Friday, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) made the first disbursement of US$7 million of the US$35 million loan signed with the Republic of Honduras to support the implementation of the National Plan for the Introduction of the COVID-19 Vaccine.

These resources will be used to finance the contract signed by the Government of the Republic of Honduras with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer for 4.4 million doses, which will be used to immunize 2.2 million Hondurans.

CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, highlighted: "These financial resources will contribute to the purchase and distribution of the vaccine for the Honduran people.  We are very pleased to be able to support the mitigation of the effects of the pandemic, and it will also help advance the country's economic recovery”.

This loan is part of CABEI's COVID-19 Emergency Support and Preparedness and Economic Reactivation Program, and is in line with its 2020-2024 Institutional Strategy, contributing to the strategic axis of Human Development and Social Inclusion, which seeks to guarantee the well-being and quality of life of Central Americans.
