Executive President's Message
Dr. Dante Mossi

The LXIII Regular Board of Governors' Meeting will be held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on May 12, 2023. This is the most important event for CABEI where decisions are made that have a positive impact on the socio-economic development of the inhabitants of the member countries. The Board of Governors is the Bank's highest authority and, according to the CABEI Constitutive Agreement, must hold an ordinary meeting once a year. Each member country appoints a governor and an alternate governor, who may be the Minister of Economy, Minister of Finance, Minister of Public Credit, the President of the Central Bank, or the person responsible for representation according to each country's domestic law.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) backs National Road Infrastructure Connectivity and Transformation Plan to benefit more than 650,000 Dominicans

With an investment of US$421.0 million, a total of 102.2 kilometers of highways will be widened, rehabilitated and constructed in the Dominican Republic.

Punta Cana, May 9th, 2023.– Around 659,830 Dominicans in the provinces of Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís and El Seibo will be able to improve their road circulation, reduce travel time between provinces, reduce the number of accidents and encourage tourism in the municipality of Miches, through the "National Road Infrastructure Connectivity and Transformation Plan of the Dominican Republic (PLANACOVIAL), Segment A", which has the support of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for US$421.0 million.

The operation consists of the rehabilitation and improvement of the level of service of 19.0 km of the Duarte Highway and the construction of 15.3 km of marginal road for the decongestion of this road. It also includes the construction of 67.9 km of highway from San Pedro de Macorís to the municipality of Miches with two traffic lanes.

"As a development bank, we continue to support the well-being of families in the Dominican Republic with projects that will reduce the time and cost of transporting people and products. In addition, it will generate 686 temporary direct jobs during its execution, 6% of which will be occupied by women. This project will have a positive impact on the inhabitants of the area, contributing to the reduction of poverty and inequality," highlighted CABEI's President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

The initiative is part of the multilateral's Institutional Strategy, in the Human Development and Sustainable Competitiveness strategic axis, specifically in the area of focusing on productive infrastructure, as well as the Competitiveness and Productivity Strategic Axis of CABEI's 2021-2026 Country Strategy for the Dominican Republic.
