Dominican Republic, CABEI's Ambassador in the Caribbean.

The country became a Non-Founding Regional Member of CABEI in 2007 and since then the institution has consolidated its presence in the country by financing programs and projects that contribute to the sustainability of economic growth and the strengthening of aspects of social inclusion with environmental sustainability. . CABEI has benefited more than 6 million people in the Dominican Republic through the programs and projects that the Bank has implemented in the country, through financing amounting to a total amount of US$ 1.1638 billion for the public and private sectors.

Summary of operations

Road Infrastructure: Financing for 148 kilometers of highways.

Energy: Financing for the generation of 80 megawatts of clean renewable energy.

Agro Sector: US$ 60 million for the strengthening of the agricultural sector with a sustainable technological approach.

A 228% increase in the amount estimated in the 2021-2026 country strategy, reaching US$ 1.8 billion. In the previous five-year period the disbursement amounted US$ 533.9 million.

PROJECTS

 

Coral Highway Project

It consisted of the construction of a 70-kilometer-long, 4-lane highway, for which financing of US$70.0 million was allocated.

 

Improvement and Expansion of the Eastern Road Corridor for road sections

San Pedro de Macorís-La Romana Section, La Romana Beltway Section and Eastern Tourist Boulevard Section, totaling 78 kilometers in length and representing the best road infrastructure in the country.

 

Palomino Hydroelectric Project

With a clean and renewable energy generation capacity of 80 megawatts, it is located in the Province of San Juan. For its execution, the Bank allocated financing for a total amount of US$ 130.0 million

 

Construction of a 50-kilometer gas pipeline in San Pedro de Macorís

Loan in favor of AES Dominicana for a total amount of US$54.00 million.

CABEI and the Ministry of Youth sign agreement to promote the insertion of youth in the Dominican labor market

The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a pathway that promotes youth employment and entrepreneurship.

Santo Domingo, April 20, 2021.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Ministry of Youth of the Dominican Republic signed a collaboration agreement on Tuesday to promote sectoral programs and projects aimed at the insertion of youth into the Dominican labor market.

The objective of the agreement is to cooperate with initiatives that facilitate integral development to improve the quality of life of the young population. It also provides for the articulation, coordination and execution of joint actions for the development of sectoral programs and projects that promote the insertion of young people in the Dominican labor market.

Likewise, it is expected to channel resources and initiatives in favor of the integral development of youth through the granting of scholarships and any others considered of mutual interest and necessary for the development of this agreement.

The CABEI Director for the Dominican Republic underscored that CABEI seeks to support our young people with concrete actions, generating conditions for entrepreneurship and prosperity in the labor market. He highlighted the "Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship" initiative in the Bank's 12 member countries, as an additional component for projects with sovereign guarantees within the Emergency Support and Preparedness Program for COVID-19 and its economic reactivation.

For CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, this collaboration will continue to improve the skills and productivity of young people in a complicated context due to the pandemic we are experiencing worldwide.

The agreement was signed at CABEI's representative office in the country by the Minister of Youth, Luz del Alba Jimenez. As witness of honor, the Bank's Director for the Dominican Republic, Hostos Rizik; together with the CABEI Country Chief Officer, Manuel Ogando, representing CABEI.

Also participating in the signing event were the Executive Director of the Dominican Port Authority Jean Luis Rodríguez, the Vice Ministers of the Ministry of Youth, CABEI executives in the country.
