Colombia joined CABEI as an extra-regional member in 1997. It holds 3.07% of the Bank's shareholding and at the close of 2020, it had an authorized capital of USD203.00 million with capital payments of USD36.25 million. During 2020, CABEI support to the country was aimed at addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects of hurricanes Eta and Iota.

Connectivity as a tool for the region´s economic and social development

In a forum organized by CABEI, information and communication technology specialists shared their vision on connectivity for social challenges.

Tegucigalpa April 15, 2021.- In the new post-COVID-19 world, organizations must promote access to connectivity as an alternative for a better performance of the communities´ economic and social strategies.

During the inauguration of the "Information and Communication Technologies ICTs and Connectivity for Social Challenges" Forum, the president of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Dante Mossi, confirmed that the institution supports programs and projects that support the use and exploitation of ICTs for the region´s development and integration.

In this regard, Dr. Mossi indicated that it is of utmost importance for CABEI to promote progress in the use of technologies, since they have positive implications for the productive system, communication, and human development.

The Bank's commitment is to protect employment and support human capital to acquire new skills, which today, particularly in the face of the social challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, play a key role in the economic and social development of nations.

The forum analysts were: CABEI Director for Argentina, Maximiliano Alonso; CABEI Director for Colombia, Julio Jácome; the Secretary General of the Central American University Superior Council, Carlo Guillermo Alvarado; the Rector of the Central American Technological University, Marlon Brevé; the president of the Association of Technological Entrepreneurs, Paula Gialdi; and the infrastructure director of the Colombian Ministry of Information Technologies.
