Daejeon, Korean Republic, 07th of June, 2017.- A delegation of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participates in the Water Infrastructure Knowledge Management Program organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea (MoLIT), through its K-water entity, responsible for managing 55% of the water of the Republic of Korea.

One of the principal objectives of the program, that has been provided to more than 290 governmental officials of 40 countries since the year 2013, consists on promoting water management related knowledge sharing and best practices, between the Republic of Korea and the five countries of the central American region.

The study tour, called “Knowledge & Experience Sharing Program of Korean Infrastructure Development for High-Level Officials (KESP)”, is taking place between the 5th of june and the 9th of june, in various Korean Republic locations, including Daejeon city. Besides MoLIT and K-water, Korea Appraisal Board representatives as well as officials from various governmental entities of the Republics of Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Honduras are also involved in the tour.

The program includes business meetings with Korean companies, a description of the master plan for the water sector in the Republic of Korea and visits to various flagship projects related to integrated water management in that country. In this context, among others, the following projects will be visited: the Daecheong multipurpose dam, the Baekje flood control facility, the Sihwa tidal power generation plant and K-Water´s Water Analysis Center and Water Resource Management Center in Daejeon.

Another priority objective of the Program is that each of the Central American countries have an opportunity to submit water infrastructure projects to both the Government of the Republic of Korea and industry experts, in order to develop interventions which can be financed in collaboration between CABEI and Korean organizations.

CABEI and MoLIT have carried out several joint activities and maintained an alliance since January 2017, when the first cooperation agreement between the two institutions was signed in the Asian country. This program demonstrates the mutual interest in promoting the knowledge sharing and commercial relations between the Republic of Korea and the Central American region.
