The certification involves continuous improvement in the reduction of the impacts that the activities of the building generate on the environment.
Tegucigalpa, September 23, 2019.- The headquarters building of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) received the Certification of the Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2015, which accredits it as environmentally sustainable.
To achieve this certification, the Bank carried out arduous work identifying the environmental impacts that are associated with the activity it carries out; such as: water, energy and paper consumption. All this through measurements, including the implementation of operational control procedures to minimize these impacts, especially through awareness raising.
The certification process required a great deal of work and involvement of officials from every level. Thanks to their support, CABEI can contribute to the mitigation of the environmental impacts generated by the administrative and operational activities carried out in its Headquarters building.
CABEI promotes practices to mitigate the environmental footprint caused by its daily operations, among them: reduce and segregate generated waste; save and use resources sustainably; efficiently use water; consider efficiency criteria and energy savings; and ensure the procurement of environmentally friendly goods and services.
What happens at the CABEI Headquarters gradually and successfully extends to the rest of CABEI's offices in Central America in order to transform them into highly efficient sustainable systems. An example of such achievements is the Neutral carbon certification obtained by the Bank in 2018 for the Costa Rica building. Subsequently in 2019, CABEI maintained the Carbon Neutral certification of its building in Costa Rica.
