By channeling US$2 million to the private sector, real estate infrastructure that integrates energy efficient measures was built.

Guatemala City, March 6th, 2023.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) made a US$2 million disbursement to Financiera Consolidada S.A. (COFINSA), a group that is part of Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI), as part of a credit line it maintains with this intermediary financial institution, to help reduce the housing deficit and implement sustainable practices in the construction of homes and buildings in Guatemala.

These resources were used as working capital to develop housing and building construction activities, which included practices that are environmentally friendly, energy efficient and consume as few resources as possible during the construction process. In turn, this disbursement helps to support approximately 83 jobs, 45 of which are held by women.

"Integrating sustainability criteria is essential for the development of the region's real estate sector, which is why CABEI is committed to continuing to provide financial solutions to implement best practices in construction activities that reduce the impact on the environment and generate economic savings for families," said CABEI President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

COFINSA is a financial institution that has been intermediating CABEI resources since 2022 and has channeled approximately US$7 million to provide liquidity to Guatemalan MSMEs in the construction, infrastructure, and service provision sectors to accelerate their post-COVID economic revitalization. To date, approximately 98 jobs have been protected.

The intermediation of financial resources is aligned with CABEI's 2020-2024 Institutional Strategy, in the Sustainable Competitiveness strategic axis, which seeks to intervene in the strengthening of the economic, social, and institutional factors that determine regional competitiveness, as well as with the Environmental and Social Sustainability transversal axis that addresses the need to preserve the environment.
