The Government of Honduras and the Kingdom of Spain initiated the project "Strengthening the Capabilities of Tourist Management of the Celaque Mountain National Park ", in the city of Gracias, Lempira.

The project consists in developing and implementing a model of tourism management of the Celaque Mountain National Park that enables participation and obtain benefits from tourism by the local communities, in order to achieve the socio-economic and environmental sustainability, to make compatible conservation and rational use of resources. The proposed project is structured into 3 areas: 1) strengthening institutional and administrative management of renewable natural resources, 2) eco-tourism development; and (3) awareness and environmental education.

This initiative will be financed with funds from the Debt Conversion Program in Honduras against Spain with 11.2 million Lempiras, benefiting a population of approximately 7,400 inhabitants of the region.
