To benefit 4,230 Honduran students, repair work to begin on 24 educational centers with CABEI support

Tegucigalpa, March 9th, 2023.- In order to strengthen education in Honduras by improving teaching-learning conditions, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is promoting the Program for the Integral Improvement of Educational Infrastructure and Training in Honduras (MIFE), which will begin this month with the intervention of 24 educational centers in the departments of Olancho and Santa Bárbara for the benefit of 4,230 students, 51.1% of whom are women.

The foreseen investment for this first stage of repairs amounts to L109,440,047.47 (equivalent to more than US$4.4 million), and contemplates the intervention of roofs, windows, floors, bathrooms and others in compliance with the provisions of the Ministry of Education for this type of school infrastructure, in these academic centers, the areas in which the work will begin are already being identified in order to interfere as little as possible with the development of their classes.

"We are very pleased to begin work on these educational centers in which we are generating better conditions for the education of thousands of children and young people, which represent the basis for promoting social change that will allow Honduras to advance in the construction of better development opportunities," said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

As part of this same MIFE program, whose total approved amount is US$80 million, it is expected that during the remainder of 2023, at least 60 more schools and high schools will be designed and subsequently upgraded, and comprehensive educational centers with a vocation in agriculture, as well as for the development of production skills, will be upgraded.

This initiative is in line with the Human Development axis of CABEI's Institutional Strategy 2020-2024, aimed at generating effective social capacities for social inclusion, promoting the strengthening of the transformation of the educational system and digital transformation to reduce the technological gap, and promoting innovation centers and modernization of educational systems.
