The Green MSMEs Initiative awards 3 Salvadoran entrepreneurs for their outstanding eco-friendly practices
San Salvador, March 5, 2025.- The Green MSMEs Initiative II of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the Government of Germany, through KfW, and the European Union, joins the support of the program "ECOEMPRENDE: Promoting Sustainability in local businesses", awarding seed capital to the three most outstanding enterprises for their sustainable and eco-friendly projects, granting a total amount of US$15,000.00 distributed for the event and the awards ceremony.
The ECOEMPRENDE Program, organized by the Solidarity Fund for the Microenterprise Family (FOSOFAMILIA) and aimed at Salvadoran entrepreneurs, provided knowledge and tools for integrating sustainable practices into their businesses, which will help reduce their environmental impact and improve long-term profitability.
During the event, María Lucía Romero, winner of the first place for her project Recicladora Jeffren, thanked FOSOFAMILIA for its support and mentioned that, despite not having had the opportunity of academic studies, it was not an impediment to pursue her dream of having her own business.
This project will optimize the processing of recyclable materials through the installation of a compacting machine for plastic and paper derivatives. This machine will automate the recycling process and thus be resilient to environmental impact.
This event provided a networking space for entrepreneurs to establish contacts with other entrepreneurs, foster collaboration, and exchange ideas among the participants. It also highlighted the fundamental role of entrepreneurs in building a more sustainable and prosperous future for all.
The event was attended by a diverse and committed audience, including the micro-entrepreneurs who participated in the program, 67% of whom are women and belong to different sectors, such as agriculture, livestock, commerce, industry, and recycling—likewise, representatives of FOSOFAMILIA, sponsors and other guests interested in sustainable development.
The Green MSMEs Initiative II aims to support the implementation of mechanisms focused on climate and environmental protection through Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Central American region. The collaboration with FOSOFAMILIA represents a significant step toward consolidating a favorable environment for the strengthening and sustainability of local enterprises that respond to today's challenges.
