Spain and Honduras benefit Tela with the start of operation of the new sanitary landfill

The works will benefit about 51,500 inhabitants of the urban area of Tela and surrounding communities.

Tela, Honduras, December 12, 2014- The Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of Honduras, as part of the "Spain's Debt Conversion Program for Honduras", currently managed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), delivered the equipment necessary for the operation of the "Improvement and Landfill Extension of Tela, Atlantida" project, which the Secretary of State in the Office of Economic Development and the Mayor of Tela are the beneficiary entities.
 
The infrastructure work project consisted of the construction of the landfill, which includes a leachate treatment plant and its equipment and operation, both governments plan to expand and improve the quality of service of collection, transport and treatment solid waste of the city, with the vision of creating an adequate installed capacity to provide a technical and environmentally correct service for a period of 20 years.

43,000 inhabitants of the urban area of the city of Tela and approximately 8,500 residents of the surrounding communities will be benefiting with the start of the new landfill.

The total investment of the debt conversion program in implementing the project, including land acquisition, construction of works and equipment was 67.8 million Lempiras.

His Excellency Mr. Miguel Albero, Ambassador of Spain in Honduras; Mr. Wilfredo Cerrato, Secretary of State in the Office of Finance; Mr. Alden Rivera, Secretary of State in the Office of Economic Development; Ms. Ana Jiménez, Counsellor, economic and commercial of the Embassy of Spain in Honduras; Mr. Emilio Silvestre, Director of the Honduran Institute of Tourism; Mr. Mario Alberto Fuentes, Mayor of fabric; Mrs. Ana Maria Obando representative of CABEI, and Ms. Monserrat Calviño, INYPSA representative, attended the ceremony at the launching of the landfill operation.
