CABEI will provide US$11.0 million, BID Invest will contribute US$18.7 million, and the Canadian Climate Fund will add US$7.5 million. The funds will support the construction of a new extension of the Universidad de Occidente, a primary and secondary school, and a state-of-the-art Olympic-level sports complex.
Guatemala City, June 11, 2025.– With the goal of transforming education in Guatemala, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has approved an investment of US$11 million for the development of the San Cristóbal Campus Educational and Sports Complex. This landmark project, co-financed through a syndicated loan with BID Invest and the Canadian Climate Fund (C2F), will mobilize a total of US$37.2 million and is expected to positively impact the lives of more than 11,000 students.
Located in Ciudad San Cristóbal, Mixco, the campus will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a school serving 1,400 primary and secondary students, and a university extension offering diverse academic programs in areas such as engineering, social sciences, and graphic design, benefitting over 10,000 students.
A standout feature of the project is the construction of a modern Olympic-level sports complex, developed in collaboration with the Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG) and the Autonomous Sports Confederation of Guatemala (CDAG). The complex will promote physical activity, support athletic talent, and encourage healthy lifestyles among students.
“This project is a clear demonstration of our commitment to sustainable development and the promotion of educational opportunities across the region. By investing in education, we are building a brighter future for Guatemala and strengthening the social fabric of our communities”, said CABEI Executive President Gisela Sánchez.
The initiative also stands out for its strong environmental focus, incorporating eco-friendly technologies such as energy-efficient systems and advanced water management. The campus will feature green areas and open spaces designed to foster interaction between students and the local community.
As the leading multilateral financing institution in the region, CABEI is proud to support projects that drive lasting impact. The San Cristóbal Campus Educational and Sports Complex will not only strengthen Guatemala’s education system but also create new opportunities that enhance the well-being of thousands of Guatemalans.
