More than half a million residents of the North Caribbean region of Nicaragua will benefit from the construction of the Nuevo Amanecer Regional Hospital
The new infrastructure in the Bilwi municipality will offer new medical specialties and state-of-the-art equipment to indigenous, Afro-descendant and mestizo communities.
Managua, March 28th, 2022.- A total of 515,469 inhabitants of Bilwi and other municipalities of the Autonomous Region of the Northern Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua will benefit from the replacement of the Nuevo Amanecer Regional Hospital, a project partially financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for US$52.97 million.
The new infrastructure consists of a two-story building and other auxiliary facilities covering a total area of 18,415 m2 on a 42,944.2 m2 site, which will provide specialized outpatient, emergency, day hospital, obstetrics and gynecology, neonatology, surgical center, intensive care, surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, and chemotherapy areas, among others.
"We are committed to the well-being of Nicaraguan families and in this sense we are very pleased to continue promoting projects aimed at the hospital infrastructure sector, always aware that as CABEI we are bringing health services closer to the low-income population living in remote communities and that in the future they will be able to receive quality service," said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.
Once the hospital is completed, it is expected to provide 80,000 emergency and 103,000 outpatient visits per year, as well as 3,200 deliveries and 5,295 major surgeries in a safe and comfortable environment.
This hospital will mainly cover the indigenous, Afro-descendant and mestizo communities of this Nicaraguan region and will have 150 census beds and 57 non-census beds, as well as seven new medical specialties.
It will also have state-of-the-art equipment such as a tomograph, intelligent operating rooms, laparoscopic surgery towers, mammography, audiometer, biological safety cabins, hemodialysis, hyperbaric chamber, imaging, ambulance station, pharmacies, administrative area, and a wastewater treatment plant.
The project is currently 31% complete and is generating 337 direct jobs and 78 indirect jobs (8% of which are filled by women).
In addition to the replacement of the Nuevo Amanecer Regional Hospital, CABEI, in line with the "human development and social infrastructure" strategic axis of its 2020-2024 Institutional Strategy, supports the construction of the Chinandega Hospital and invested in the construction of the Dr. Fernando Vélez Paiz Western General Hospital in Managua and the Dr. Alejandro Dávila Bolaños Military Hospital, both of which are currently in operation.
The multilateral executes five projects in the health sector with financing totaling US$331.6 million, such as the implementation of the Vaccination Deployment Plan and COVID-19 care, as well as the construction and equipping of hospitals to deal with the pandemic.
