The project will receive 26.3 million lempiras from Spain’s Debt Conversion Program to Honduras.

Tegucigalpa, November 21, 2016. - The socioeconomic development of Honduras is one of the priorities of Spain’s Debt Conversion Program to Honduras, which is administered by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). To that end, the Program granted 26.3 million lempiras for the startup of the project, "National Network of Multimedia Centers to Boost Honduran Socioeconomic Development (ALAS)."

Financing for the project’s execution was provided to the Honduran government’s Ministry of General Coordination. The project will contribute to Honduran development through the implementation of a network of three (3) multimedia centers, which will be located in the Chambers of Commerce of Tegucigalpa; La Entrada, Copán; and La Ceiba, Atlántida. The centers will facilitate access to information and communication technologies, government institutions, business associations, companies, social organizations and institutions that require forming, training and updating human resources.

The project is expected to directly benefit 800,000 inhabitants of the city of Tegucigalpa; 27,725 inhabitants of Nueva Arcadia, Copán; and 300,000 inhabitants of La Ceiba, Atlantida. It will also indirectly benefit the inhabitants of neighboring municipalities, as well as other organizations.

It is noteworthy that the actions executed through the Program fall under the framework of the development policies of the governments of Honduras and Spain and are in line with the Social Development axis of the 2015-2019 CABEI Institutional Strategy, which seeks to improve the quality of life of Central Americans.

Representatives from the governments of Honduras and Spain and CABEI authorities highlighted the importance of the project and its contributions to the socioeconomic development of Honduras.
