Fondo Honduras -Spain to reinforce security at Palmerola International Airport

CABEI, through the administration of the Fund, acquired six vehicles and equipment for the airstrips for US$6.8 million.

Tegucigalpa, August 19, 2021- To provide maximum safety on the Palmerola International Airport runway in Honduras and enhance the firefighters' response capacity, the Honduras Debt Conversion Program with Spain, administered by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), invested US$6.8 million in the purchase of three firefighting vehicles, a rapid intervention vehicle, a command vehicle and an ambulance with specialized equipment.

Also, in five single boarding bridges and one double MARS type consisting of a single two-bay bridge with a maximum service length of 38 meters and another two-bay bridge with a maximum service length of 44 meters.

"Through the support of the Honduras-Spain Fund, we promote projects that contribute to the tourism, economic and social development of Hondurans. We are pleased that with the acquisition of this equipment, the Palmerola Airport will provide a high quality and safe service to its users and collaborators," said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

This grant is part of the US$53.2 million approved by the Honduras-Spain Fund for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Palmerola International Airport, which is expected to handle 650,000 passengers in its first year of operation and generate 271 jobs during construction.

Spain has been a CABEI extraregional partner since 2005, and in 2006 Honduras and Spain designated CABEI as the administrator of the Honduras-Spain Fund.
