In solidarity with the Republic of El Salvador, CABEI approves US$500,000 in emergency assistance for damages caused by the Storm Julia

CABEI resources will make it possible to implement actions to reduce the negative impacts and provide timely attention to the most affected population.

Tegucigalpa, October 14th, 2022. - TheCentral American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved emergency natural disaster assistance in the amount of US$500,000 to the Republic of El Salvador to help mitigate the adverse effects generated by Storm Julia, which are reflected in losses and damages to the country's population and infrastructure.

The funds will support the actions implemented by the authorities in the country to address the aftermath of this weather phenomenon, including the purchase of food, clean water and basic necessities, medicines and medical equipment, medical care services, supplies for shelters, materials and labor for the construction or repair of infrastructure, among other needs to be covered.

"Our region has been hit by this tropical depression causing human and economic losses, we sympathize with the affected families and join the actions that government authorities are taking to implement priority mechanisms to safeguard the lives and safety of Salvadorans by guaranteeing their basic care," commented CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

These resources will be executed by the Government of El Salvador through the Ministry of Public Works (MOP).

CABEI will continue to promote programs and projects to help the countries of the region implement climate change prevention and adaptation measures to reduce vulnerability to natural phenomena.
