Construction of Nuevo Amanecer Regional Hospital progresses for the benefit of more than 500,000 Nicaraguans with CABEI support

The Multilateral's working group reported 44% progress, including concrete structures in all buildings, masonry, plumbing, exterior finishing works, and major drainage works in the municipality of Bilwi.

Managua, November 29th, 2022 - Long and tedious ambulance rides to a national referral hospital in the event of a medical emergency will soon be a memory for the 515,469 inhabitants of Nicaragua's North Caribbean region thanks to the replacement of the Nuevo Amanecer Regional Hospital in the municipality of Bilwi, a project financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), which is 44% complete.

This was confirmed by a working mission of the multilateral through a field visit last Thursday and Friday, in what will be a two-story building plus other auxiliary buildings in a total construction area of 18,415 m² on a land area of 42,944.2 m², which will have state-of-the-art equipment, 150 census beds and 57 non-census beds, in addition to offering seven new medical specialties and specialized outpatient, emergency and day hospital services, among others.

"We are pleased to have corroborated the progress of the works of this important project, we are sure that once the construction is completed the inhabitants of the North Caribbean will have a quality health service that will improve their quality of life, so it fills us with satisfaction to be part of this initiative, as well as other projects that have come to strengthen the health system and the welfare of Nicaraguans," said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

Another of the hospital infrastructure projects financed by CABEI is the Chinandega Departmental Hospital, which is already a reality and has benefited more than 500,000 people living in 13 municipalities in the department of Chinandega with specialized medical consultations, surgeries and laboratory services, among others.

Also in the health sector, for the benefit of more than 6 million Nicaraguans, CABEI is supporting the strengthening of the health care capacity of the Hospital Service Network in Prioritized Health Units in Nicaragua, the Vaccination and Care Deployment Plan for COVID-19 and the COVID-19 Emergency Prevention and Containment Program.
