• New Gender Equality Policy supported by the French Development Agency (AFD) and active participation from all areas of the Bank.

Tegucigalpa, May 28, 2025.- Reaffirming its commitment to equality, inclusion, and sustainable development in the countries it serves, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved the update of its Gender Equality Policy, a key instrument that will guide its internal and external actions toward a more just, equitable, and inclusive transformation.

The new version of the policy incorporates a holistic view of gender equality, ranging from women's economic empowerment to their comprehensive well-being, establishing guidelines for integrating a gender perspective into all CABEI operations, institutional processes, and strategic relationships, under a framework of zero tolerance for any form of gender-based discrimination, violence, or harassment.

This important advance was made possible thanks to collaborative work among all areas of the Bank, with technical support from a specialized consulting team financed through the Technical Assistance Program of the French Development Agency (AFD). The process reflected a comprehensive and cross-cutting approach, consolidating a policy aligned with the highest international standards.

“Gender equality is not an isolated goal; it is a principle that guides our vision of development. Last year, we managed to eliminate the salary gap between men and women and define the promotion of gender equality as a strategic objective of the bank. This update represents a milestone for CABEI and for the countries we serve, reaffirming our commitment to building more just and sustainable societies. We are deeply grateful to AFD for its valuable support in this process,” said CABEI Executive President Gisela Sánchez.

This update is part of the Institutional Strategy 2025–2029, which recognizes gender inclusion and equality as essential pillars of sustainable development. In line with this, CABEI is working on the design of a new Gender Strategy, which will allow for further mainstreaming of the gender approach, improved monitoring through disaggregated indicators, and the incorporation of specific safeguards in its operations.

In addition, this strategy aims to strengthen internal actions to ensure unbiased selection processes, equality in leadership positions, the elimination of salary gaps, and the creation of an inclusive and violence-free work environment.
