CABEI Grants Guatemala US$500,000 to Address the Emergency Caused by Tropical Storm ETA

With these resources CABEI seeks to support the most vulnerable population affected by the climate phenomenon.

Tegucigalpa, November 11th, 2020.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) continues to support its member countries in the midst of the calamities they are going through.  On this occasion, CABEI has approved a non-reimbursable financial cooperation for the amount of US$500,000.00 for the Republic of Guatemala that will be used to support the people affected and mitigate the effects caused by tropical storm ETA.

CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, indicated: "The Bank sympathizes with the Central Americans affected by ETA and as with Guatemala, it will be providing resources as a donation to the governments of Nicaragua and Honduras to support them in the midst of the state of calamity.”

Through Government Decree No. 20-2020 dated November 5, 2020, the Government of Guatemala decreed in the Ministerial Council to declare the State of Public Calamity in the departments of Petén, Quiché, Alta Verapaz, Izabal, Zacapa, Jutiapa, El Progreso, and Santa Rosa. 

The resources granted by CABEI will support the Government of Guatemala's efforts to protect and provide welfare to the affected Guatemalans in these areas.

CABEI expresses its condolences for the human losses and at the same time reaffirms its commitment to the prompt recovery of the affected areas, and expresses its willingness to support the actions aimed at reestablishing the infrastructure and essential services in the departments most affected by ETA.
