CABEI to provide $50 million for the construction of Territorial Gender and Diversity Centers in Argentina

Buenos Aires, March 2, 2021.  The Central American Bank for Economic Integration will provide US$50 million in support for the construction of 14 Territorial Gender and Diversity Centers in Argentina's 23 provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. These centers will provide training, prevention, and promotion of gender equality, and in some cases will house people who are victims of gender-based violence and their children.

The first centers will be located in the provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero, Chaco, Formosa, Misiones, Tucumán, Catamarca, La Rioja, San Luis and Santa Cruz.

CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Moss, stated that "the fight against gender-based violence is a social problem that requires the commitment of all sectors in our countries and in our institution this issue is an important part of our institutional strategy. Our Bank will continue to support all these initiatives.

Maximiliano Alonso, Director for Argentina and Colombia of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, added: "Our commitment and sensitivity are focused on transforming the reality of thousands of women and LGBTIQ+ people in Latin America who suffer all kinds of violence. We have to work together to put an end to this scourge.

The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity with the support of the Ministry of Public Works in coordination with the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of the Nation.

The total amount of this project is US$55.5 million and is part of CABEI's operations in Argentina in the areas of human development and social infrastructure and services for competitiveness.  

In its 2020-2024 institutional strategy, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration established gender equity as a cross-cutting theme to favor initiatives that promote equal opportunities and equal economic and social conditions for the population.
